exists to plant and nurture the seeds  of faith and serve the Pastoral needs of our diverse community.  This service encompasses: Living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed, Celebrating the Sacraments, and Teaching the Doctrines of the Catholic Church.

Like many churches of its time, the first Catholic Church in the Corrales area was a Visita or Spanish Mission Church. Originally named La Iglesia Jesus, Maria y Jose, it was built in the 1750s on the west side of the Rio Grande about one and a half miles from Sandia Pueblo. Following a flood that destroyed the structure in 1868, the Gutierrez family donated land for a new church and camposanto directly across from their hacienda.

Using salvaged vigas and lintels, the new church, dedicated to San Ysidro the patron saint of farmers, was built in the shape of a cross with three-feet-thick massive masonry adobe walls that were hand-plastered with adobe on both the exterior and interior. The original building, now known as the Historic Old San Ysidro Church, or the Old Church, had a flat earthen roof with a belfry over the main entrance which was a single door facing the east. The floor was packed earth and the interior walls were whitewashed with gesso. When parishioners attended mass, they sat on hand-woven Native blankets or Hispanic rugs. Later, each family provided its own bench, called a tarima, which was a plank with four legs.
